The Perfect Bedtime Drinks To Send You Into A Peaceful Sleep

After a long day making a living, nothing brings more relief than to finally slip between the sheets and enjoy a restful sleep. However, for many people, sleep does not come easily for a number of reasons. More importantly, people have devised healthy ways of ensuring they get adequate and quality sleep whatever the day might have brought their way.

One of the best ways to make sure you enjoy your night’s rest is to drink herbal tea! Due to its amazing benefits to the body, herbal tea is loved all over the world. But do not imagine there is only one type of this product. Thanks to tradition and developments in the kitchen and medical field, there are many varieties of herbal teas each with unique benefits. A look at a number of them will reveal exactly why you need to start taking herbal teas today.

Importance Of Herbal Teas

Before then, let us understand a few things on the importance of these teas. Herbal teas help you to sleep because they contain nutritional elements and less caffeine. Compare this with common teas which contain caffeine and you will realise why herbal teas are the best choice of beverage before going to sleep. Caffeine generally keeps sleep away from the body and that is not what you want before you go to bed.

Many of these teas also have a soothing effect on the tummy. Normally, when your tummy is rumbling and complaining about something you ate during the day, you cannot afford to close your eyes. A number of herbal teas help to control flatulence and bloating which are common stomach problems. In essence, when you drink herbal teas before going to bed, the gas in your stomach is neutralised and sleep becomes your friend.

Another major problem that many of us have is heartburn. You know that obnoxious feeling when your chest feels like it is in hell. How many of us can sleep when having heartburn? How many common beverages or teas can take care of this problem? Your guess is as good as mine. By dealing with acid-reflux, herbal teas help you to deal with heartburn thus allowing you to have a restful night.

Now this is for pregnant women – some of the most delicate people we have in society. Nausea and morning sickness are common and you need to find a way to overcome them if only to have a normal day when you wake up. Your unborn child is also safe when you take herbal teas before your sleep. You may not be pregnant but you have a relative that may need herbal teas to ease her morning sickness.

Not all herbal teas perform the same role. Some of them may have elements that may not augur well with you. Consequently, read the labels carefully before your purchase herbal teas to determine whether the products will help you. For those who prepare the herbs directly, please read about the particular herbal tea to know if it contains any negative effects.

Our Recommended Herbal Teas:

  1. Peppermint

This is a popular herbal tea especially because it gives energy to the body and relieves stomach upsets. In case you had a busy day eating and drinking all sorts of foods, your tummy may give you trouble and this is the kind of herbal tea that will give you relief before you sleep.

  1. Chamomile

This is the most renowned of herbal teas all over the world. Many people prefer to dry out the flowers, prepare the powder and use it directly. You may also purchase it from a shop where it may be combined with other herbal teas.

  1. Lavender

Lavender is also a very important bedtime tea variety. It is a common plant that you can find in most places. However, there are also lavender herbal teas that you can purchase and use before you go to sleep. More importantly, lavender helps you to relax and deal with stress.

  1. Valerian

Research has confirmed that valerian has sedative properties. Our ancestors may not have had the benefit of research but they knew instinctively and through experience that valerian would help to deal with anxiety and help people to sleep.

  1. Lemon Balm

There are many people who also prefer lemon balm as a bedtime tea. Those who love this product say it helps them to relax thus inducing restful sleep. You may opt to buy the processed type or make your own from the leaves of this important plant.

  1. St John’s Wort

This plant with yellow flowers may be your solutions for lack of sleep. Research shows that St John’s Wort reduces anxiety and is also an anti-depressant. With so many people experiencing depression, this plant will boost sleep by dealing with anxiety.

Now you know it. Don’t suffer from lack of sleep or use pharmaceuticals that have negative side effects. Choose herbal teas and sleep soundly and healthfully daily.

The Importance of Giving For Your Soul

We live in a world where materialism reigns supreme. We are all guilt of competing with our loved ones for the most up to date product, self indulging and boasting about our material possessions on social media. While capitalism has resulted in the improvement of the quality of life for many, millions still live below the poverty line. We have forgotten the benefits of giving at a time when the world is deeply divided between the rich and the poor.

Giving is an act of sacrifice. We can all relate to the struggles of spending your own money on something or someone, rather than yourself. It’s a conflicting feeling when you know there is a lot you can do with the money you are giving to charity. However, you decide to forego your rights and privileges over the money to bring relief and cheer to another human being. You give because you have seen a need that can be fulfilled by the resources you have!

In contrast, if you give simply because you have no use for the materials you are giving, you may not feel like you are sacrificing. While giving from abundance is not prohibited or unethical, it is a fact that giving makes more meaning when it is done out of the desire to help another person even if that means that the giver will have to waive some benefits.

From the time we are born, we are accustomed to receiving. As new-borns, we experience the warmth of other people. Our parents, siblings and relatives receive us with a lot of joy. Gifts come our way even if we don’t know it. As we grow up, we receive gifts during birthday parties, Christmas and other festivals and events. As long as we remain under the custodianship of parents and guardians, we expect to be recipients.

Sooner or later, though, we become adults and realise that we are expected to start giving and stop expecting others to give us. That is the moment when we realise the gifts we used to unwrap were actually sacrifices from other people. Society now expects us to give to the less fortunate and to our family members. In a way, the moment we begin to give is the moment we begin to live.

What Then Is The Importance Of Giving?

Giving is an expression of our humanity. A human being is expected to be like a lake with an outlet. When the lake receives water, it must allow some of the water to flow out so that it can receive more. The movement of water energises the lake and gives life to the animals and plants within it. In contrast, when you stop giving, you become like the Dead Sea, a water body that receives without giving, and cannot support life. In essence, you give because you are created to give and that is how you prove you are indeed human.

It is also important to give because by so doing, you will help another human being to live and enjoy life. At the same time, you will be happier because you are helping others. You are lucky if you have everything you need. There are many more who cannot afford one meal a day. Millions have no place to live at a time when some people have more than one place they call home. If you rush to the doctor whenever you catch a cold, you need to know that there are some patients who cannot afford to see a doctor. If you are a parent, grandparent, child or grandchild, remember there are millions of orphans and homeless people on earth.

Giving is important to the soul because it is the best weapon against unfettered materialism. Materialism is a form of disease that is destroying the soul of humanity. A soul that does not give eventually dies out. When we allow selfishness to engulf our hearts and make us callous, we kill the very essence of our being. Giving, therefore, gladdens the soul because the soul was not created to be selfish. Shunning greed and selfishness is the best way to ensure that the resources on earth reach each and every inhabitant.

The soul is spiritual and thus amenable to giving. The Supreme Being, whatever name you choose to give it, is a force for good. One cannot claim to be spiritual if they don’t give. In some religions, a portion of one’s earnings are donated to the poor either directly or through a religious order. It is ironical for one to claim to believe in a Supreme Being yet remain immune or dumb to the needs of others. Religion always teaches how generous the Supreme Being is to humanity and thus expects that adherents will be kind to other believers and non-believers alike. We, therefore, give to follow religious instructions and to connect with the higher being. The soul finds happiness in giving because it is accustomed to God unlike the body and the mind.

We give because it is in generosity that we find the meaning of life and this fulfils the soul’s desire.

Merry Christmas!

How To Ward Off Winter Blues

Winter is here once again and so are the blues. The temptation to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary movement is very strong. Everywhere you look, there is gloom. The weather accentuates your feelings of misery and enslavement to your small space. You long for the day the sun will shine again. Is there a way to lift your spirits before then?

How can you overcome the overwhelming depression that often hits you during this gloomy season? This is the time that sleep takes a flight because you feel very cold. Many people are also lethargic and are not ready to venture outdoors. Did you also know that you are likely to overeat during winter? Perhaps it is because there is little activity and you spend much time indoors. You probably know someone who becomes irritable during winter; this is a symptom of winter blues. Winter is the time that you also feel like not socialising.

There are several strategies you can use to lift the gloom and actually enjoy winter instead of enduring it.

  1. Avoid Passive Life

Winter will nudge you to remain indoors but you need to avoid this temptation if you are to fight off the gloom. I am not saying that you should remain in your house as I am against locking yourself inside the entire day. Rather, dress in warm clothing as winter demands and give your muscles some walking workout. This will remove the strain from your legs, give you some exercise, refresh your brain and lift the gloom off your face. Yes, you can take a walk in winter and actually enjoy it.

  1. Get Fresh Air

Just as with taking a walk, you need fresh air. The air inside your house can get contaminated. You need to move out and absorb fresh air outdoors. This you can do especially when it’s brighter outside or during midday when there is a little warmth. You will also do your body a favour if you sit near windows where you can see what is happening outside. There is still a lot of excitement and life outside your house and you need not lose touch with nature simply because of winter.

  1. Watch Your Diet

One of the best strategies to keep off the blues during winter is to eat well. Invest in a balanced diet. A well-fed person is able to overcome the extreme cold that is associated with winter. Avoid junk food and eat healthy, natural and fresh food. Look for the foods that are in season during winter. For example, incorporate sweet potatoes, lentils, onions, leafy vegetables, oranges, ginger and so on in your diet. Take lots of warm water as well as teas, coffees and soups as they will help you meet your daily fluid requirements easily.

  1. Stay Warm

As the temperatures dip in winter, so do moods. Depression and irritability result from such situations, not to mention illnesses such as asthma, the common cold and pneumonia. You cannot afford to suffer from any illness during this gloomy time. You need to keep your body warm at all times. Choose warm clothing; eat warm food and drink warm beverages. Make sure there is a system to regulate temperature in your house, particularly to safely keep you warm. Do not venture outdoors in light clothing even when your body seems to have no problem with your actions.

  1. Let The Light In

Winter has a way of keeping away natural light at times. Sometimes you cannot tell whether it is night or day. Having gathered enough provisions and remained indoors, you may begin to lose acquaintance with natural light. Whenever you have the opportunity, let natural light into your house. Make sure the lights in your house are working and keep them working for as long as possible. You may want to invest in a light box which will offer an alternative to natural light especially on the days when winter is at its peak.

  1. Exercise

I know you may not have a gym in your house, but you can improvise. You need to stretch out your body as much as possible. Create space in your living room or bedroom and practice yoga, for example. Use your furniture for support. Get a mat or stretch out on your bed. Get a skipping rope and use it every day. Many of the lighter gym equipment are also easily available and affordable. Use the internet to learn new ways of exercising. Apart from keeping you warm, working out will ensure your blood is flowing optimally and that you avoid winter illnesses.

  1. Build And Maintain A Social Network

Don’t live alone during winter. Even if you are forced to live alone, keep your communication lines open. People need your help and you need to help them too. Mental blues have a way of compromising the mental health of some people. Keeping close to family and friends will ensure you can face winter blues together. Go out and meet friends in social events. Don’t lock yourself in because this makes you vulnerable.

A Beginner’s Guide To Yoga Practice At Home

So, it’s coming to the end of the year, Christmas season is upon us. I know that I have been slacking with the Grace Guru lifestyle recently as work and social schedules are very hectic! During this season I start to brainstorm goals for my new year’s resolutions. If you’ve been thinking the same and trying yoga is one of your goals, this short and simple guide is just for you! We will talk you through the basics so you’ll be calmly yogi-ing your way into 2016!

A key benefit of starting yoga at home is that you are not committed to a specific time or place, you have no nerves about being in a room with strangers, or having anxiety about not being able to reach into a certain pose. The only promise you need to make is to a yoga mat!

However, you will require one form of commitment, a pledge to yourself. Yoga beginners will need an open mind and a lot of patience, mix this with determination and you will feel your body progress and see results in no time at all!

Step 1 – Breathing

Lay down flat on your back (on your yoga mat), feet shoulder width apart and hands relaxed to your side. Attempt to engage your diaphragm and take a long deep breath, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeating this 10-15 times will reduce your heart rate and take you to a much calmer place. You can also play calming background music, to help create a peaceful atmosphere and block out any surrounding noises.

If something has been irritating you during the day, think of this as you breath in and out, feel the tension release through your shoulders and down your limbs.

Top Tip: Remember to maintain a smooth breathing pattern throughout your yoga routine to help your body stretch and strengthen.

Step 2 – Stretch

Mountain Pose – stand tall with your feet together; let your arms rest to the side with fingers together. Feel your spin stretch from the bottom of your spine all the way to the top of you neck.

Child’s Pose – this pose is perfect for resting! Start wit your knees and feet on the floor, with your feet touching. With your knees apart rest your belly and chest between your legs. Stretch your arms out in front of you and place your head on the floor.

Step 3 – Progress

5 Yoga Poses To Strive Towards!

  1. Tree Pose – stand with arms at your side, shift your weight onto your left leg and place the sole of your right foot on the inside of your left thigh. With hips facing forward, when you have found your balance, bring your hands in front of you into prayer position.iStock_000012256061_Small
  2. Warrior – step your feet about legs distance apart and turn your right leg out to about 90 degrees. Take your arms out to the side and bend your right knee so it is above your ankle.virabhadrasana warrior pose #4
  3. Downward-Facing Dog – from the mountain pose hinge forward from your waist to place your flat palms on the ground. Your hands should be shoulder-width apart with your arms and back in a straight line. This may feel a little challenging at first, but remember to breath and relax deeper into the pose when you feel more comfortable.Business woman in conference room
  4. Cobra – lie facing down on the floor with your hands under your shoulders and your legs extended, tuck hips downwards as your squeeze your glutes, push through your thumbs and index fingers as you raise your chest.Yoga upward facing dog pose
  5. Bridge – lie on the floor with your knees bent and directly over your heels, place your arms at the side with your palms down, press your feet into the floor as you lift your hips. Bring your chest toward your chin and clasp your hands under your lower back. bridge

Step 4 – Cool Down and Relax

When you have finished a yoga-routine it is really important to lay down and completely relax your mind and body. The corpse pose is perfect for ultimate relaxation!

Relax your body, with your arms and legs by your side in a natural position that feels comfortable. Feel each muscle in your body start to relax, shut your eyes and breath deeply. Stay in this position for 5-10 minutes to restore balance ensuring you will be re-energised after your first yoga session!

Aura, Awareness and Attitude – What Does Your Aura Say About You?

Have you ever been drawn to someone and not entirely known why? But they make you feel at ease, you feel an instant level of trust?

It is easy to forget that our bodies radiate immense energy. We are not just a mass of flesh and blood. We are masses of energy. To be more precise, you are a field of energy.

The atmosphere of energy that surrounds us is called an aura. People can actually detect our aura’s and relate to us based on that consciousness.

So what is an aura? Think about some of the people in your life who make you feel especially comfortable when you are around them. These special characters in your life tend to pull people towards them, while inspiring confidence. They are like magnets and rarely have enemies. We call it charisma but in this sense it is their auras that are connecting with us.

group of smiling friends taking funny selfie with smart phone

It can even happen with a total stranger! You meet someone, perhaps when you are travelling, and suddenly you feel like you have known them for years! I met a guy called Sam on a trip to South East Asia years ago, his presence made me feel safe, at ease, comfortable. Sam had a powerful and positive aura surrounding him, I can still sense his warmth even when I recall my first meeting with them!

Have you ever experienced this type of interaction? Please comment below – I would love to hear!

The opposite of this extraordinary aura also exists though. You may have met some people who feel as if they have negative energy surrounding them. They have accumulated so much evil and negativity that we prefer not to spend too long in their company. Negative vibrations can make us feel uncomfortable. Nobody wants to be around a person who is always negative and who seems to attract bad luck.

But aura is not just about you,

Every object, living or non-living has an aura.

This is etheric energy that revolves around an object. People and objects are miniature manifestations of universal energy which radiates from an object or a body to the point that it affects our surroundings. Every living thing emits energy nearby and that energy determines the reaction of people to that specific living organism.

For non-living objects, even with the absence of emotions, there is chemistry that determines the aura of the object. It all depends on the composition of the object. If you know how electromagnetism works, then you know the source of the aura of such objects. That is why you experience certain feelings and emotions towards some inanimate things and places. I am sure there are some spots, probably a cliff or lake, where you feel comfortable and nostalgic. You can discuss aura in relation to everything you know of. Whether you are thinking about gold, silver, diamond, stones, buildings, oceans and so on, aura is always present and has a great role to play.

iStock_000012157838_Small

From the forgoing, it is obvious that your aura is very important. It can open or close doors for you. Your aura can determine how people react to you. You cannot live alone. Success in life depends very much on how strong and effective the relationships you have are. It is for this reason that you must realise the importance of being aware of your aura.

Aura is an indication of character. This is evidenced by the brightness, colour and range of the aura. What your aura reveals is who you really are. You can lie to everyone else but not to yourself. As they say, a good tree cannot bear bad fruits and vice versa. You cannot wake up with a positive aura while deep inside you feel evil and have malicious intentions towards others. Nature is more powerful than you. It is infallible.

You also must understand that aura cannot be hidden.

This is energy that radiates from you unconsciously.

You have no way of telling your aura to remain hidden. People will either love or hate you based on the character you exhibit, which is a manifestation of the aura you emit. If people are attracted to you and want to be with you, there is no way you can change that. If you are obnoxious and detestable, only a change of aura can save you. You either have positive aura or negative energy, which is emanating from within and revolving around you.

An individual’s aura is powerful. So powerful that experts have discovered its presence three days after one is declared dead! How crazy is that?! Experiments are revealing that human beings continue to exhibit their auras for some hours after death. This shows the potency of aura and cements the need to cultivate positive aura at all times. Imagine a situation where people even fear to come near your body or grave because of the kind of reputation you had when you were alive!

The need for aura consciousness cannot be over-emphasised. You need to be in touch with your inner self to cultivate positive aura. Mindfulness and meditation are effective tools in bringing your soul, mind and body into conformity with the kind of aura you desire to project. By being conscious of your thoughts and focusing on issues that enlighten and inspire you, you can acquire a positive aura. Being aware of you aura is a result of deliberate effort to transform your thoughts. You need to align your thoughts with the universe and ensure you impact the lives of others with genuine kindness and generosity.

Are you in touch with your aura?

Benefits Of Sirsasana!

Yoga has been around for many years and is credited with many benefits. For example, it is said to have healing qualities in addition to enhancing physical fitness. It is important to understand some yoga poses since they carry specific gains for you. One of the most significant of these postures is Sirsasana.

What Exactly Is Sirsasana?

Widely considered as the best asana, Sirsasana is essentially the headstand. In plain words, it means balancing your body on your head with your feet pointing upwards. Some people think that doing this is acting like a child; after all, children are the only people capable of engaging in dangerous physical play like attempting to support the body’s weight with the head.

What these people do not know is that the headstand is among the most beneficial poses that one can practice in yoga. However, there is a rider. This is the kind of posture or activity that carries with it the tag ‘don’t try this at home.’ Seriously speaking, only engage in the Sirsasana if you have an expert taking you through the motions. If you have back or neck problems please wait until you are fully healed for you to practice Sirsasana. You would rather lose the benefits for the time being than worsen your health problems.

headstand_sequence

What Are The Benefits Of Sirsasana?

Sirsasana can help you to increase the flow of blood in your body by allowing the blood into the lower limbs to reach the heart faster and get purified. People who sit for long will tell you that by the time they rise up they feel heavy in the feet and legs. The truth is that a lot of blood will have flowed to the lower limbs with little blood moving up. Through Sirsasana it becomes possible to allow stagnant blood to flow back to the heart more efficiently.

Another important benefit of Sirsasana, and which is related to the first, is allowing blood to reach the head region more effectively. Studies show that this movement is important in helping in toning the pituitary gland. All other endocrine glands are controlled by the pituitary, which also helps the reproductive glands to function more effectively. You also must understand that having blood flow to your scalp and follicles will greatly improve the quality of your hair.

Your organs are subject to gravitational pressure and Sirsasana will give you relief for negative effects of this strain. This is in relation to hydrocele and piles which can make you very uncomfortable. It is important to know that for your entire life, your organs have faced downwards because of gravitational pressure. The best way to give them a relief is to let them face the other way for some time.

Sirsasana will also help you to relax particularly when you are stressed. Stress is a common phenomenon in human life but it affects each person differently depending on issues and circumstances they have to deal with. The headstand helps you to become less worrisome and to overcome fear and anxiety. As you breathe in and out in this posture, you will begin to deal with the issues that make you anxious.

Sirsasana will also help you with focus issues. Your brain needs adequate blood to help it function optimally. When you give the brain its food, it becomes better in its work in addition to helping it to focus. In this situation, you are likely to feel more confident, active and attentive. That is what many people are trying to achieve through many not-so-effective methods. With this yoga pose, you have a shortcut to concentration.

If you want to make your arms and shoulders stronger, then Sirsasana is one of the best strategies for doing this. As you stand on your head, you will be building the stamina and muscles in the head and shoulders. To make sure your muscles get the required exercise, you can push your body down and up as you get off the pose. There are not many exercises that can give you this type of workout.

IMG_5308-1024x768

If you are having problems with your metabolism and digestion, it is time you tried Sirsasana. One of the reasons you are not feeling well in your abdomen is because some of the food you have been eating is stuck somewhere in your system. This yoga pose will help to remove such food and this will in turn help blood to flow into the organs that support digestion. Nutrients are also likely to be absorbed faster and more efficiently when you engage in Sirsasana.

There are many other benefits of Sirsasana. For example, you can relieve your migraines and headaches through this pose. If you are suffering from asthma, try this posture and you will find relief. Sirsasana also rejuvenates your body. The only way to find out is to begin Sirsasana lessons today.

Adult Colouring Books And Why You Need Them!

There is a new craze in town and it has to do with adults behaving like children! Yeah, being childish is in vogue now. I know you’ve heard it on TV, seen it in all the magazines and all the bookshops are overloaded with them. So now is the time you are asking yourself, why not trying it out and why is it actually so popular?!

Let me save you the pain of pestering Google with petty questions. Ladies and gentlemen, show your love for Adult Colouring Books! Put your hands together for the champions of this course – our youngsters!

Screen Shot 2015-08-26 at 14.24.00

Before you begin to insinuate that I am high on something or I am little bit confused, please allow me to confirm that adult colouring books are the above-18 years-old version of the colouring book your son, daughter, nephew, niece and neighbours’ children use at school. Yes, I am talking about the book you bought for your little angel that has many patterns waiting to be filled with a myriad of colours.

I know you are yet to recover from the shock of learning that fathers, mothers, college students and working class men and women are warming up to colouring books. I don’t blame you because some of us did not understand the importance of these books when we were in school. You and I know people (like us) who use this strategy to keep children quiet when we want to concentrate on something else. In essence, colouring books are some form of punishment or method of distracting kids to help you work on something different.Screen Shot 2015-08-26 at 16.26.53

However, people who understand colouring books and what they represent will always find time to engage in some colouring. Far from being a punishment, this is an activity that will bring a lot of benefits into your life. It is important to underscore what I have just said because the only time most adults touch colouring books is when they have to demonstrate to kids how to use the books. Many, therefore, fear that engaging actively in this pastime will make them objects of ridicule. This is a notion you need to discard if you are to become one of the many people who are enjoying the countless benefits of colouring books.

What Are These Benefits That I Am Talking About?

Perhaps we should begin by asking why we buy colouring books for children and then use some of the insights to derive lessons for adults. The main reasons for children to engage in book colouring activities are to make sure they are busy ( he he ) , no but the real good ones are to impart drawing skills, develop creativity, develop patients, to inculcate perceptual skills and also for entertainment. If you are a parent, you must realise that colouring books are some of the best gifts you can give to your children, some kids really love it. Kids that engage in this activity tend to be very keen on details since colouring books require one to work within confined patterns.

colouring

Let Us Now Turn To You…

If you visit Amazon today and search for adult colouring books, you will be amazed at how many products pop up. People are realising the need to go back to the basics if only to find joy in life. Unless for a few people who might have gone through very difficult upbringing, childhood remains the best period of life in terms of play and enjoyment as well as being carefree. Psychologists often urge people to try some of the childhood games they played as a way of reconnecting with their inner beings and finding happiness once again. Colouring books are very crucial in cultivating positive nostalgia in adults and bringing the missing spark after days of repetitive work.

Another important reason you should start using colouring books is stress control and relaxation. The average adult is often a person who has to go out in the morning, work or study, and return home in the evening while tired and stressed. Human beings engage in leisure as a way of unwinding. Just as you engage in indoor games, scrabble or any other pastime, you can take up colouring books and find intellectual, physical and emotional rejuvenation. As you trace your way through patterns and fill images with colours, your mind will demand for more creative energy and this will bring out the best in you.

Colouring books are also crucial in training your brain to concentrate. For some understandable reasons, we tend to glorify multitasking. Women are particularly praised for juggling tasks and reducing the time it takes to accomplish chores. However, psychologists are now warning us that multitasking is not all that positive. It interferes with the normal working of the brain. People who engage in many tasks at the same time often end up not doing any of those tasks as efficiently as expected. On the contrary, colouring books train you to focus. There is no way your mind can be thinking of something else or your hands can be engaged in another activity when you are colouring, if you really want to stay inside the lines. At first, concentrating may appear impossible but with time, it will become easier and you will not notice how fast the time flies!

Examples Of Adults Using Colouring Books?

As early as the 1900s, the famous psychologists, Carl Jung, prescribed this activity to his patients to help them calm their minds. I know you are surprised because you thought this is a relatively new invention meant for children. Even today there are doctors who follow in the footsteps of Dr. Jung. In addition, modern professionals are gathering in large cities such as New York to engage in book colouring as teams. I have already mentioned the influx of colouring books on Amazon and book shops, which implies that respective manufacturers are making a kill.

Turn It Into A Collective Activity!

If you think it is hard to do it, bring together a few friends or family members and challenge one another to colour books. You can begin working with your child, wife, husband or workmates. Set aside time after work or during weekends when you can become a child once again. You will discover that youth is found in engaging in youthful activities. Don’t wait until you are hospitalised to begin using colouring books. Begin today.

How And Why To Use Adult Colouring Books:

1. Book colouring will at first appear childish and time-consuming, but as you finish more challenges, you will begin to like doing it.

2. There are many types of colouring books with different patterns. Find the ones that challenge you and begin to master the art. Maybe at the beginning start with the big patterns and then when you have the hand for it, go in to smaller detailed ones!

3. Colouring books are very reasonable is cost. You can purchase one every month without straining your pocket.

4. Determine to colour one pattern every day so that you don’t consume the time you need to perform other chores and tasks. Best is to set even a timer, as when you start coloring time flies very quick!

5. The more people participating in a colouring challenge; the better for your development and enjoyment of the activity.

6. Buy tip pens, markers, water colours and colour pens with high colour intensity to get creative and free with all colours your soul desires.

7. Put nice music in the background and a cup of your favourite tea, when you sit down to colour and just let yourself go!

8. Pay attention when starting a new pattern which colours you like to use “today”, what mood are you in? What colours does your soul and spirit desire?

What Is Mindfulness?

The mind is one of the features that differentiates human beings from animals. The human mind is forever in thought. The mind stops being active when you finally breathe your last. But is constant thinking good for the mind? What happens when you let your mind wonder into the past or explore the future unchecked? Are there any side effects of a mind that is constantly multitasking? The answers to these questions are found in the concept of mindfulness.

Perhaps the following description fits you… You are driving or doing a manual job but your mind is busy thinking about other issues. You are thinking about the friend you just quarreled with. Your thoughts are constantly on the incident and why it had to happen. Alternatively, you are pondering the future. You are almost losing your job and you don’t know what to do. You consider the bills and other financial obligations that you will have to meet without stable employment. Your thoughts are so intense that you only realise you have arrived when you see the gate to your house.

The fact is that your mind is on autopilot. You are in a state of mindlessness. There are issues going on in your mind without any need for a lot of consciousness on your part. You are not even aware of the signposts along the way. You have no idea what is happening around you. Your thoughts are clouded. It is as if your mind is floating and you cannot control what it is thinking. In essence, you have a mind but it is not conscious. It is as if it is not thinking. Your mind is missing. You are mindless.

Have you ever experienced mindlessness? If you answer in the affirmative, then you are lying. It happens to most of us. Our minds often drift into thoughts of hopelessness, anger, fear and worry among other negative emotions. This happens every day because we have problems to deal with at individual and family levels. We quarrel with others in the workplace and at home. We have the problems of others to shoulder too. How can you be happy and contented when your child is having problems in school or when one of your family members is diagnosed with cancer? In other words, we all go through moments of mindlessness at one time or the other as we deal with stress from our daily struggles.

So let us ponder the effects of mindlessness on you. While we may give excuses for engaging in this activity, experts warn that it is harmful. Your emotional and mental wellbeing are at risk when you start to daydream. Actually, you accomplish nothing worthwhile because you are not thinking critically but you are having drifting thoughts instead. In addition, research has shown that when you are in a state of mindlessness, you tend to be less happy.

Mindfulness entails being in charge of your thoughts at all times. It means that you are aware of what is happening to you in the here and now. Nothing that takes place in your thoughts, body and feelings is lost on you. You are aware of the happenings in your environment. You are not a stranger to your thoughts and you do not drift into yesterday or tomorrow. A person that is mindful is one who lives in the present irrespective of what is happening to him or her at the moment.

Another important aspect of mindfulness is that you don’t pass judgment on what is happening. Rather, you accept the current situation and do not spend time wishing that things were different. Contrast this with mindlessness and you will realize that the two concepts are miles apart. Here is a situation where you are conscious of what is happening around you, and you have the opportunity to begin thinking negatively or engage in wishful thinking, but you chose to remain a detached observer.

Mindfulness is not a new art or exercise. It has been practiced for many years and this explains why people mistake it for meditation. However, it is important to realise that mindfulness is not emptying the mind of all thoughts. It does not mean stopping to think – now that we are saying you stop being judgmental. It is more of training for the mind to let go of the past and concentrate on the present in an appreciative manner.

By now you must have realised that mindfulness is not easy to practice. We have agreed that there are many cares in the world that make us mindless. Despite this, we can train our minds to become mindful. You only have to look at some of the benefits of this activity to understand why it is crucial to train your brain to be mindful. For example, it will help you to attain mental and emotional health, which you need in this ‘insane’ world. It also lowers anxiety and stress thus sparing you other illnesses. Mindful people also make excellent spouses and marriage partners since they take time to listen to what their counterparts are saying and attend to it. They are also more practical in their approach to life issues as opposed to being idealistic.

It is time you seriously considered training your brain to be mindful and to eschew mindlessness. Scientists opine that a brain that is mindful performs better on issues that require application of reasoning and logic. People who embrace mindfulness are also likely to overcome terminal illnesses or manage such diseases better than those who aren’t.
